It was the 70s, rock ‘n’ roll, sense of humor, and a love of blue jeans were the basis for the friendship between Gene Montesano and Barry Perlman. The friends opened up a jeans shop in Florida in 1972, in 1978 they parted ways and Gene headed to Los Angeles with $100 in his pocket and a head full of ideas. Gene started Bongo Jeans and stayed there for 15 years. Gene decided it was time to launch his dream and teamed up with his long time friend Barry to become partners again, it was then that the Lucky Brand started. The catch phrase “Lucky You” put in the fly of the jeans was a gamble at that time but it definitely paid off.
